If I have a check I want to add to my account, where should it be mailed?
The check should be mailed to the custodian of your assets. On the face of the check, we recommend
that you write your account number. It is also helpful if you let us know you are mailing in a check
so we can watch for it and make sure it hits your account properly. Back to top.

If money is available in cash or the money market fund, funds are generally available immediately.
You can either call us to request a check, or write a check if you have a checkbook on your account. Back to top.
If we need to sell something to free up funds for you, then usually there is a three business day
wait until the funds settle and are available. Sometimes the funds can be made available more quickly,
but you might incur a small amount of interest from the date of withdrawal until the settlement date. Back to top.
How quickly are funds available if I have a margin account?
Funds are generally available immediately if you have a margin account. If you draw on the margin, then interest begins
to accrue immediately on the margin debit. Back to top.
What if I need funds same day?
Available funds (cash, margin availability, money markets, or prepayments) in your account can be wired
same day with a letter of authorization. The letter needs to state the amount of money to be wired;
the name of the account to whom the money is being wired; the ABA (a.k.a. Routing) number and account
number of the receiving account; the physical address of the receiving account; and the name, address
and phone number of a contact at the receiving firm. There usually is a charge for Fed wires by the
delivering firm. Back to top.

Feel free to call us and we will see that the new checks are ordered for you immediately. Back to top.
If I want to deposit shares of stock to my account, what should I do?
The shares should be mailed to your custodian. Always put the number of the account into which the
shares are to be deposited on the front of the certificate. We generally recommend they be sent by
certified/insured mail. In order for the shares to be put into street name so that they can be readily
traded, you need to do one of two things:
- Sign a stock power – If you go this route, the stock power should be mailed in
a separate envelope from the stock certificate you are delivering to your custodian. Be sure, when
signing the stock power, that the signature is identical in all respects to the spelling and name on
the certificate. Stocks powers are available on your custodian/broker's website. Alternatively,
give us a call and we will fax you one.
- Sign the back of the certificate – Sign the bottom of the certificate, where
indicated, exactly as your name is written on the front of the certificate. For extra security, we
always recommend that you write in the name of your custodian/broker on the back of the certificate
where it says " …I do hereby irrevocably appoint and constitute ___ put the custodians/brokers name here
___ to be my agent in the transfer…". Then mail the
certificate to your custodian via certified/insured mail. Back to top.
As always with deposits or withdrawals of funds to or from your account, please call us so
that we can be on the lookout for the shares.
What do I do if I would like to make a gift of shares to a relative or a charitable organization?
To make a distribution of stock to a name other than the name on the account, you will need to write a
letter of authorization. The letter needs to state the number of shares to be gifted; the name of the
entity to whom they are being given; the account number into which they are to be deposited; the firm
holding the account and the physical address of the firm; the DTC number of the firm; and the name and
phone number of a representative of the firm who we can call to confirm delivery of the shares. The letter
should be addressed to your custodian/broker and generally can be faxed to us with an original copy to
follow. Always leave at least 3 to 5 days to complete this kind of transaction, or more during busy
periods like the end of the year. Back to top. |
